What is OSCP (Open Source Career Portal)?

Issues with OSCP

  • Some users have javascript disabled in their browser, which means the OSCP job board will not work for them.
  • You need to use advanced hosting to be SEO Compatible and provide XML(RSS) feeds. You may well need to pay a developer to set this up.
  • Branding is challenging and you may also need a developer to help with this. There is a strong possibility that any branding you apply will need to be re-applied each time you upgrade to the latest OSCP version. This is a hidden cost in terms of developer time.
  • It doesn’t currently support a salary ranges, now a legal requirement in California and New York State and likely to become so elsewhere.
  • You have to edit a configuration file on your server to set OSCP up.
  • It does not conform to SEO best practices: job details pages use the Bullhorn Job ID rather than the recommended practice of using the job title.

When OSCP is installed via the WordPress plugin

  • There are limited settings. This means that you need to adapt to the way the OSCP job board works rather than it adapting to your needs.
  • Candidates are less likely to find your job postings via search engines, as the plugin installs the OSCP via an iframe, causing problems for search engines when crawling the information.
  • Candidates won’t have access to direct links to the job details page.
  • The WordPress Plugin does not support the necessary structured data for Google Job Search.

OSCP ROI

  • Both the WordPress and non-WordPress versions of OSCP are free to install, but you will likely need to pay for developer support to get the best out of them.
  • If you are not using the advanced install or are using the WordPress plugin install, you do not have the structured data needed by Google for inclusion in Job Search. Your jobs will therefore not be listed, potentially a bad return on your investment.
  • It may be attractive as a ‘free’ offering but there could be hidden costs and performance issues.

  • Matador Jobs is a WordPress plugin that imports (syncs) Bullhorn jobs into native WordPress objects (CPT- Custom Post Type).
  • This is important because it means that all WordPress Themes and Plugins will “just” work with the imported jobs, so you get a load of extra befits from the WordPress ecosystem.
  • By default, Matador Jobs supports LD+JSON schema, Google Indexing API, pushing jobs to Google in real-time, and your SEO plugin of choice.
  • The branding is inherited from your existing theme’s look and feel.
  • Matador Jobs works with the full private API to access any field, allowing more customization on values to sync with WordPress and questions to ask in the application forms.
  • Matador Jobs is highly extendable and offers an increasing number of add-ons to provide additional features.

Issues with Matador Jobs

  • You can get Matador Jobs up and running in 10 minutes. However, to take full advantage of the potential customization, branding, and extendability, it may take a little bit more to set it up initially. But this is a one-time effort as your customizations will be maintained when you update the core Matador plugin.
  • More settings and options mean more complexity, but also more capabilities. For this reason we include support as part of our service.
