Installing Matador Jobs is simple!
Experienced WordPress developers should be able to install Matador without even needing to read this installation guide. For our users who don’t know their way around WordPress like we do, however, we’ve written this installation guide. It includes a lot of screenshots and extra details to help ensure all our users succeed!
There are two ways to install Matador Jobs–and any WordPress plugin. In most cases, “the easy way” works, but if it doesn’t, we also have a second set of advanced instructions.
Before We Begin: Your Setup Environment
As a best practice, we strongly recommend you install Matador and configure it from a staging or development environment. That is usually a copy of your site that is not generally accessible to the public where you can afford to make a mistake without it impacting your business.
Most good web hosts these days provide simple staging/development environments often with the click of a single button. If you aren’t sure, you can contact your web host.
Some users will choose to install on a “live” environment. Generally, this is safe, but we encourage you to review your SEO settings and disable any settings that include Matador Jobs data until you are ready for your site to go live. Shortly after completing the install, go to your SEO plugin and make sure Matador Jobs Job Listings are excluded from your SEO sitemap. Failure to do so could draw traffic into your jobs before you’re ready or have fully tested your system.
The Easy Way: WordPress Plugin Uploader
The easiest way to install a plugin in WordPress is to use the Plugin Uploader. This requires minimal technical knowledge and works most of the time, including in all standard WordPress configurations.
Pre-requisites
Before you can get started, you will need the following:
- A username and password to your WordPress website with plugin management capabilities. If you don’t know how to log in or if your user account cannot manage plugins, you should contact your website administrator.
- The .zip file with Matador Jobs Lite or Matador Jobs Pro. You download this from Matador Jobs website. If you need help with that, check out this guide.
Log Into WordPress
Let’s start by logging into WordPress. If you are familiar with WordPress, you already know how to do this.
Go to your website’s WordPress login page. For most sites, this will be found at https://your-site.com/wp-admin
where your-site.com
is of course replaced with your site’s domain name.
Enter your username or email address and password, then tap or click Log In.
You will either be redirected to the Admin Dashboard on a successful login or be told your login credentials are not correct. If your credentials are incorrect, you can either follow the “forgot password?” prompts or contact your site administrator for help.
Upload and Activate Matador Jobs
Now that we are logged in, we can upload and activate Matador Jobs.
In the side menu, hover or tap Plugins.
You will now see a list of all installed Plugins. At the top, next to the page title, click or tap on Add New.
You are now on the Add Plugin screen, which will show a gallery of the various free plugins available on the WordPress Plugin repo. Ignore those for now and look to the top of the page and click or tap on Upload Plugin.
Without the page reloading, a box will appear under the button.
Now select your Matador Jobs plugin .zip
file. You can do this either by drag-and-dropping the .zip
file onto the screen or by clicking or tapping the Choose File button and selecting the file from your computer’s file selector. Once you have a selected file, the Install Now button will be available. Click or tap to install the plugin.
WordPress will now upload your plugin .zip
and install it while keeping you posted on the progress. When the upload and installation is done, you’ll see a screen that looks like the screenshot below.
Activate the Plugin
Even though the plugin is now installed, you need to Activate it, which means to turn it on. From the installation status screen, you can simply tap or click Activate Plugin.
If you somehow exited the installation status screen without clicking Activate Plugin, you can also activate (and deactivate) Matador Jobs from the Plugins screen. Again, to get there, click on Plugins in the side menu.
Scroll to find Matador Jobs in the list of plugins (they are sorted alphabetically) and click Activate to turn it on.
